A Public Inconvenience

A Public Inconvenience (2011)

On the occasion of the opening of the Archizines exhibition at the Architectural Association in London, Tom James and I were commissioned by Elias Redstone to create a publication and installation at the White Cubicle toilet gallery inside the George & Dragon pub (RIP) in Shoreditch, London.

The publication featured images by Theo Simpson of a series of abandoned and boarded up public toilets in Sheffield, and an essay lamenting the state of affairs we currently face in our cities where the only places to relieve oneself is in bloody Starbucks.

In our wisdom we decided to re-open the toilet in the pub as a public toilet for the duration of the exhibition, and duly turned a toilet into a toilet. Hmmm. Anyway, we tiled the lot (took ages). And then had a party.

Photos to follow.
